A Very FreekNation Thanksgiving: 5 Things We're Thankful For

by Mason Moreau 22 Nov 2018

We're so freekin' thankful you guys.

2018 has been an amazing year for gaming. Battle Royale games skyrocketed, and Story-based experiences brought us some of the best content in entertainment period.

With all of this awesome stuff, it's hard not to be thankful. So we took the time to reflect on everything the world of video games offered us this year.

Indie Games

We played so many indies in 2018! Every year AAA after AAA title releases and at least two or three receive overwhelmingly positive reviews. Meanwhile, Indie developers have been pumping out boutique experiences that are just as entertaining.

2018 has been such a great year for indies. Celeste, Dead Cells, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance were just a few games that really showed us that it doesn't take an army of developers to give you an experience that's awesome.

The Nintendo Switch

Speaking of indies, it's time to give a shoutout to the console that we play them on: The Nintendo Switch. In our office, many of us have to take flights across the country and sometimes even overseas. It is so amazing to be able to play console quality experiences on a handheld while in the air.

When we get really busy, being on a plane is sometimes the largest amount of down time we even have to play games. So we're thankful for the Switch giving us the ability to still put in some hours with our favorite games even when we're not in the living room.

Game Developers

None of the amazing games this year would have been possible without the immense talent and dedication of developers big and small. We wanted to use this moment to thank them for all of their hard work.

It's easy to overlook the effort that it takes to create a game as big in scope as God of War or Red Dead Redemption 2. Every now and again it's good to take a step back and realize that a giant team of people made these experiences possible.

So thank you game devs. FreekNation salutes you.

The Castlevania Anime Series

Time to just come right out and say it, there has never been a video game adaptation that's been this good. We've spent so much time obsessing over this new anime from Netflix. It's bloody, it's violent, it's about vampires, and most importantly, it's faithful to its source material.

If you haven't yet taken the chance to check this show out, Castlevania fan or not, do yourself a favor and give it a watch. The first season is only 4 episodes.

Not convinced? Go ahead and click the picture, it's a YouTube link to the trailer.

You (yes, YOU)

We of course have to give thanks to you, the reader, player, and thumbstick user. Also known as the FreekNation. Without you none of this would be possible, and with you anything is possible. So just take a moment to pat yourself on the back. Feels good, doesn't it?

Are you thankful for something this year? Leave a comment down below and let us know. Also don't forget to check out our black friday sale this weekend!
