The Game Awards 2017 Predictions

by Ashish Mistry 30 Nov 2017

2017 has proven to be an absolutely stellar year for video games of all genres and the Game Awards 2017 is celebrating the top games of the year. The awards ceremony kicks off on December 7th and is broadcast globally on all gaming screens and digital platforms. There are over 100 games and individuals nominated for an award this year, so make sure you make your voice heard and vote for your favorite games of 2017 here! There are a ton of awards up for grabs, but here are a few games that the KontrolFreek office picks for the winner.

Game of The Year

  • Legend of Zelda: Breath of the WildOur Pick
  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds
  • Persona 5
  • Horizon Zero Dawn
    – We get the impression that Breath of the Wild will be collecting a lot of awards this year, but this incredible adventure game definitely deserves the recognition!

Best Game Direction

  • Wolfenstein II
  • Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • Super Mario OdysseyOur Pick
  • Horizon Zero Dawn
    – Super Mario Odyssey builds upon the stellar gameplay fans have come to expect from the series and takes it to a new level with exciting new environments and new gameplay elements.

Best Narrative

  • What Remains of Edith Finch
  • NieR: Automata
  • Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
  • Wolfenstein IIOur Pick
  • Horizon Zero Dawn
    – The only thing that matches the intense and brutal action in Wolfenstein II is the epic narrative in this incredible sequel. There are moments in this game that feel more like a blockbuster movie than an action game.

Best Art Direction

  • Destiny 2
  • CupheadOur Pick
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • Persona 5
  • Horizon Zero Dawn
    – While it was a great year for graphics in games, Cuphead’s unique and cartoony style outshines the competition. Don’t let the silly characters fool you though, this game is seriously difficult!

Best Score/Music

  • Destiny 2
  • Cuphead
  • Nier: Automata
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • Persona 5Our Pick
    –
Some soundtracks simply set a tone or provide a little ambiance, but the music in Persona 5 takes this game to the next level. They will absolutely get stuck in your head and you won’t even mind.

Best Audio Design

  • Destiny 2
  • Hellblade: Senua’s SacrificeOur Pick
  • Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • Super Mario Odyssey
    – So much work was put into designing visual and audio aspects in Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice that the game comes with a mini-documentary. This game is a truly haunting experience and it owes it in great part to the audio design.

These are just a few of the awards up for grab in this year’s Game Awards. We have barely scratched the surface and the genre awards are going to be very competitive.
