What to Expect When you Deploy in Battlefield 2042

by Brittany Vincent 26 Nov 2021
It's been a long time coming, but it's finally here: Battlefield 2042. It's the biggest Battlefield yet, and the pinnacle of multiplayer gaming. It stands tall among the greats of the genre, like Call of Duty and Halo, and it offers some of the most exciting, hard-hitting multiplayer matches you’ll find in this year’s crop of games. If it’s been a while since you’ve played a Battlefield game, you might have forgotten what’s in store for you when you drop into a match: some of the most high-octane, adrenaline-pumping moments you can think of.

If you’re thinking about picking up Battlefield 2042 to pad the rest of 2021 with trademark Battlefield moments, like jumping out of a jet, stealing another pilot's jet, hijacking a vehicle only to rack up the kills on the enemy team with that same vehicle, or doing something as simple as blowing away the bad guys with an anti-tank rocket launcher, we support you. There’s plenty more of that in store for you when you boot up Battlefield 2042. Looking forward to gearing up with your favorite KontrolFreek Performance Thumbsticks or Performance Grips and joining your squad in one of the year’s hottest shooters? Here’s what you can expect when you load up Battlefield 2042.

No single-player campaign

The Battlefield series might be known for some of its explosive campaigns, but Battlefield 2042 is different. All the focus has been turned to multiplayer matches, so you'll have to make sure you're at your best and brightest to tackle the pain all the real-life players will bring throughout each multiplayer game mode. But even though there's no story to be found here, there's still plenty to enjoy and certainly no shortage of players or multiplayer match opportunities. And without a campaign to focus on, the developers were able to enhance the game further with additional options for you to enjoy the game with friends. Try as you might, you won’t get bored, even without a story to explore.

Large-scale battles with more players than ever

Battlefield 2042's gotten much bigger than previous builds, and you'll notice the change right away. The max player count has been doubled to 128, and you'll be divided up into two teams of 64 for some massive battles on both current-gen consoles and PC. This means much lengthier, more difficult showdowns between players, and more of a dangerous situation when you deploy. With so many players swarming around, you'll have to figure out how best to stay out of your enemies' way.

It’s a much more chaotic experience than you might have experienced before throughout the battlefield series, but in the best way possible. You’ll definitely have to sharpen up your skills a bit before jumping in, too. This means larger maps that are divided into sectors. You'll have smaller matches playing out in quadrants around the map, where players can hold sectors by capturing and holding all the points within.

Custom games with Battlefield Portal

One of the coolest new additions to Battlefield 2042 is undoubtedly Battlefield portal. It lets you run custom games with up to 128 players with variables you can tweak. That includes choosing the maps, vehicles, weapons, and other items pulled from games throughout Battlefield history. These game options include Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Battlefield 1942, and Battlefield 3. If you don't want to dally with modern equipment and Battlefield 2042's maps and modes, Battlefield Portal is one of the coolest parts of the series that we've seen yet. You'll want to spend hours creating your own maps and experimenting with friends.

A wide selection of new maps

With a new Battlefield comes plenty of new maps to deploy on. Here are the maps you can look forward to clashing with friends (and strangers, of course) on when you drop into Battlefield 2042:

● Kaleidoscope in Sogdo, South Korea
● Manifest in Brani Island, Singapore
● Discarded in Alang, India
● Renewal in Eastern Desert, Egypt
● Hourglass in Doha, Qatar
● Breakaway in Queen Maud Land, Antarctica
● Orbital in Kourou, French Guinea

There are still more to come throughout the newly-established Battlefield 2042 roadmap, but there's plenty to enjoy when you first jump into the game. With all of these large, diverse locations, you won't soon tire of duking it out with the enemy team throughout these locales.

Ten different Specialists to master

Battlefield 2042 has introduced Specialists, much like the Operators seen in Rainbow Six Siege. Each one of them comes with their own gadgets, abilities, and personalities, with categories each Specialist fit into. The game launched with ten, and there will be one new Specialist every season, with four seasons a year. The current list of Specialists includes:

● Kimble "Irish" Graves
● Webster Mackay
● Maria Falck
● Pyotr "Boris" Gukovsky
● Wikus "Casper" Van Daele
● Navin Rao
● Santiago "Dozer" Espinosa
● Emma "Sundance" Rosier
● Constantin "Angel" Anghel
● Ji-Soo Paik

The Specialists range from engineers to combat surgeons and everything between, including camouflage masters, tech specialists, and more. You’ll be able to choose the Specialists that fit your play style best. There’s also a set of KontrolFreek thumbsticks that best correspond to each Specialist build, so we recommend mixing and matching to see what kind of play style works for you.

For instance, if you're the type of player who likes to stay on the move and get up and close with enemies, you might want to use Webster Mackay, paired with our FPS Freek Galaxy thumbsticks for extra security and precision. If you're interested in healing other players and reviving them when possible, you should opt for the CQC Rush thumbsticks and Specialist Maria Falck.

Now that you know what to expect from your first brush with Battlefield 2042, it’s time to gather your squad, gear up with your favorite KontrolFreek equipment, and charge into battle. You’re going to be spending quite a bit of time in this shooter over the next few months, and with our thumbsticks, grips, and other goodies, you’ll be ready to take it all on.
