Scary Games to Play This Halloween

by Ashish Mistry 27 Oct 2017

It’s that time of the year when you want to turn off the lights, stay up late and plug in one of your favorite horror games. Some gamers really just like to punish themselves, with the survival horror genre expanding all the time and pushing the envelope on the best ways to freak out players. 2017 saw some great new additions to the survival horror genre, and we are putting together our list of the best horror games for you to play on Halloween!

Friday the 13th
There is something immensely satisfying about a game that is designed to encourage teamwork and coordination for a group of players and combines that with a terrifying monster designed to disrupt that coordination. Enter Friday the 13th, the game based off the classic horror film of the same name. One player in this multiplayer game is selected to fulfill the role of the sinister Jason Voorhees, while the rest of the players become his potential victims at Camp Crystal Lake. Jason comes equipped with a weapon and a variety of skills he can use to traverse the map in pursuit of his victims. The game isn’t entirely unfair though, as survivors are able to equip several different weapons and tools while searching for one of the many items necessary to escape Camp Crystal Lake. There are multiple ways to escape such as finding car keys and a battery to start the car or doing something similar for a boat. If your palms are getting a little too sweaty playing this one, make sure you check out some KontrolFreek Grips! Working together is the best way to survive Jason’s relentless pursuit, but it’s also important to note that cars and boats can hold only so many people at one time…

The Evil Within 2
The Evil Within was released in 2014 and introduced players to a mind-bending style of horror gameplay. The Evil Within 2 just recently came out and reviewers are saying the game provides some truly phenomenal scares. The sequel boasts a little more action than the original, and the game continues to throw unique and horrible enemies that you can either take down using a variety of weapons or, more likely, run and hide from. The Evil Within 2 will challenge both your gaming skills and your bravery, making it a great addition to the survival horror lineup for 2017!

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Resident Evil has been a staple in the horror genre for years, finding success in games, books and even films. The game famously shifted its gameplay mechanics with the release of Resident Evil 4, allowing for more action than intrigue than previous installments. While Resident Evil 4, 5, and 6 featured an over-the-shoulder view and added a lot of action to the franchise, the series has again made a fundamental change with the release of Resident Evil 7. The newest chapter in this famous series introduces players to a first-person view and a much slower-paced and ambiance-driven story. This game masterfully combines a spectacular story with terrifying game elements in this survival horror juggernaut. The heart-pounding action of trying to land a headshot to save your ammo can be slightly relieved using some of our high-rise thumbsticks! Did we mention that this game also supports VR? Just in case you wanted to experience the terror a little more intimately.

These are some great games to play if you are looking to get spooked! Let us know what your favorite survival horror game to play for Halloween is in the comments below. If the games on this list have been a little too much for you, here is a nice gif of a friendly clown that wants to give you a balloon!
